この9分間の短編は、後に世界を席巻するジェームズ・ワン監督と脚本家リー・ワネルが、長編制作の資金を得るために「概念の実証（プルーフ・オブ・コンセプト）」として制作したものである。この作品がなぜホラー映画史に金字塔を打ち立てたのか、その核心が見て取れる作品だ。
本作の白眉は、後にシリーズの象徴となる「逆トラバサミ」を巡るシークエンス。
単なるグロテスクな描写に留まらず、「顎を引き裂く」という物理的恐怖と、「生きたままの男を切り裂かなければ自分が死ぬ」という極限の選択肢が、観客に強烈な不快感と没入感を与えている。

この短編は、わずかな時間と限られたリソースでも、強烈なアイデアと演出力があれば、観客の深層心理に一生消えない傷跡を残せることを見事に証明したのだ。
