Kentaro Miura, born on July 11, 1966, was a manga artist from Chiba Prefecture. His masterpiece Berserk has sold over 60 million copies worldwide and is regarded as a cornerstone of dark fantasy, celebrated for its highly detailed artwork and deeply layered storytelling.

He made his debut in 1988 with the short story Berserk, after which he serialized Ōrō, Ōrō Den, and Japan, all based on original stories by Buronson. In 1989, he began serializing Berserk in Monthly Animal House and later in Young Animal, continuing the series on an irregular schedule for more than 30 years. Miura passed away suddenly on May 6, 2021, at the age of 54, leaving the work unfinished; however, his close friend Kouji Mori and Miura’s studio colleagues have continued the series toward completion.

Although there is no official announcement, it is rumored among fans that the scenery of the castle town where the "Band of the Hawk" was based in "Berserk" may have been inspired by the old townscape of Takayama and the Gassho-zukuri villages of Shirakawa-go.
