He is an all-around player excelling in running, batting, and fielding, and has been a key player in the Cubs' lineup.

Additionally, he became the first Japanese right-handed batter to hit 20 or more home runs in a season.

He is in the same graduating class as Shohei Ohtani and is also close friends with him in private.
